Kazakhstan has established ECEC as a policy priority and made remarkable progress in expanding participation and access to ECEC to its growing population of young children. However, the impact of these initiatives is being hampered by financial, structural, and methodological challenges.

Early childhood education and care (ECEC) provide a crucial foundation for a child's development, shaping their educational, psychological, health, and economic trajectories into adolescence and adulthood. While many studies have shown that quality ECEC positively impacts academic outcomes and school readiness, the role of ECEC in promoting the health and well-being of young children is poorly understood.

This understanding is critical in developing comprehensive and integrated ECEC programs that support the holistic development of young children. This project aims to explore the role of ECEC on young children's health and well-being outcomes in Kazakhstan.
The study will identify ways in which ECEC educators, families, and policymakers in Kazakhstan can further support the holistic development of young children by identifying positive, evidence-based experiences for promoting young children's health and well-being in ECEC. This could lead to better outcomes for children regarding their social-emotional, health, and physical development and provide them with a solid foundation for success in later life.
